You got a pre-approval letter in the mail from Capital One. Now what? Below are our most frequently asked questions.


Is this legit? Yes, it is. Capital One and Cogswell Motors have teamed up to offer financing for a number of Capital One-selected customers in our area.  As long as nothing significant has changed in your job or credit history in the last few months, and as long as you meet the minimum income requirements, the approval is valid.

How does this work?   First, we submit your information to Capital One through our electronic system.  We will immediately get the validation of your approval with instructions on how to proceed with matching a vehicle that fits your needs to the approval that you have been given.  

What do I need to do first?  The most efficient way to go through this process is to come in and let us verify your approval on the spot.  As long as you bring the necessary documents, we should be able to assist you into your new vehicle in one visit.  To expedite this process, we recommend you call us ahead of time, where we can obtain preliminary information over the phone and set up a specific time for you. Simply call Cogswell Motors at 866-980-3494 and ask for Customer Care. 

What if I am not local?  No problem! Each time we do this sale, we assist customers from all over the state, even some from neighboring states, with their next vehicle.  However, to ensure qualification, we recommend filling out a finance application  on our web site prior to your visit.  We will verify your approval and set the process in motion prior to your arrival, saving you time before you make the trip.

What documents do I need to bring?  You need to bring your Driver's License, last year's W2, a most recent pay stub, and a phone bill (or other utility bill) with your name and address on it.  If you are self-employed, please contact us and we will let you know what documents you should bring depending on your situation.

I am the one who received the letter. Is my spouse pre-approved as well?  Although the pre-approval is for you, many times we can add a spouse to the loan as a cosigner. This of course has to be approved through Capital One, but it is possible.
